Terms of Service
Last updated July 8, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legally binding agreement between you and Arun Agrahri, who operates Gavel ("Gavel," "we," "us," or "our"), at usegavel.com (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who can use the Service
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. If you use the Service on behalf of a company, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms for it.
2. Your account
You are responsible for the information you provide, for keeping your login credentials secure, and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at gavel@recmend.com if you suspect unauthorized use. You may sign in with Google or with an email and password.
3. What Gavel is
Gavel retrieves frameworks from a curated library of named operators and applies them to the decision you bring, with citations that link to their original sources and, where they exist, points where experts disagree. The Service is an AI-assisted research and thinking tool. It is not a substitute for professional legal, financial, tax, medical, or other licensed advice, and it does not create any advisor, fiduciary, or professional relationship.
4. Plans, billing, and refunds
- Plans. The Service offers a free tier and paid plans (currently Plus at $19/month and Pro at $49/month). Usage is metered in credits; current limits and prices are shown at checkout and may change over time.
- Trial. Paid plans may include a 14-day trial that does not require a card up front.
- Payment. Paid plans are billed in advance through Stripe and renew automatically until you cancel. You authorize us to charge your payment method for each cycle.
- Cancellation. You can cancel anytime; your plan stays active through the end of the paid period and does not renew after that.
- Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and we do not refund partial periods or unused credits.
- Price changes. We may change prices with notice; changes apply to your next billing cycle.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or infringing.
- Abuse, disrupt, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.
- Scrape, bulk-export, or systematically extract the curated corpus or generated content to build or train a competing product, model, or dataset.
- Resell, sublicense, or share your account access, or circumvent credit limits.
- Reverse-engineer the Service except to the limited extent the law allows.
- Submit other people's personal or confidential information without a lawful basis to do so.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of the questions, context, and materials you submit ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, process, and transmit Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you — including sending it to the AI providers described in our Privacy Policy. Consistent with that Policy, we do not use Your Content to train AI models or to expand our corpus. You are responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the right to submit it.
7. AI output and no guarantee of accuracy
Responses are generated by AI and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong, even when they cite sources. The citations are there so you can check the original source yourself — please do, especially before you rely on an answer for an important decision. You are responsible for how you use any output, and all decisions you make remain your own. The Service does not provide professional advice.
8. Intellectual property
The Service, including the Gavel name, interface, software, and the selection and arrangement of the curated library, is owned by us and protected by law. Quotations and frameworks from third-party experts belong to their respective authors; we cite and link to them and claim no ownership over their works. Subject to these Terms, you may use outputs for your own business and internal purposes.
9. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties (for example, Google, Stripe, and AI model providers) and may link to external sources. We are not responsible for third-party services or the content of linked sources, and your use of them may be governed by their own terms.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that outputs will be accurate or reliable.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gavel will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or USD $100.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Gavel from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as content ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing anything, you agree to first contact us at gavel@recmend.com and try in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days. If that fails, you and Gavel agree that any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the state and federal courts located in Texas, and each party consents to that jurisdiction and venue.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
