What founder podcasts talk about vs what founders ask

By Arun Agrahri · Published

Founder podcasts give scaling and mindset nearly three times the share of airtime that their viewers give them in questions. Career, business model, idea validation and fundraising get the reverse. We sorted 493 hours of a16z, Alex Hormozi and Lenny's Podcast, and the 3,016 founder questions left under the same videos from July 2023 to September 2026, into the same 21 problems. Six of them part ways on all three channels.

Channel columns read airtime / questions. Shaded rows are the 6 gaps.

Method

  1. Airtime: every chapter of every summarized episode, 57,450 chapters from 13 channels. A chapter counts for its length in minutes, from its start and end time. The panel is a16z, Alex Hormozi and Lenny's Podcast, from July 2023 to September 2026: 493 hours on one of the 21 problems.
  2. Questions: 52,235 YouTube comments of six words or more under the same three channels' videos in the same months. A comment counts when it asks for help with one of the 21 problems: 3,016 do. Alex Hormozi's viewers ask 2,606 of them, a16z's 102 and Lenny's 308.
  3. Sorting: one model (typesafe/jev-1.13) sorted each chapter by its title and summary, and each comment by its text, into the 22 founder problems from What founders ask for, or none. No comment and almost no chapter falls in the 22nd problem (wanting cited advice instead of generic AI answers), so this page shows 21.
  4. Check: before the full run, we sorted 50 random chapters by hand. The model picked the same problem on 39 of 50 and agreed on problem or none on 43 of 50. Where it differed, it put a problem on chapters we called none 7 times and never the reverse.
  5. Matching: each share is worked out per channel and then averaged over the three channels, so Alex Hormozi's large comment count does not decide the result. Shares are of problem minutes and problem questions; chapters and comments sorted as none are left out.
  6. Gap: a problem counts as a gap when its airtime and question shares differ by at least 3 points and one is at least twice the other. The direction must also hold on all three channels and in at least 6 of the 7 half-years. 6 of 21 problems pass. Across all 21, the order of airtime and questions agrees only in part: a Spearman rank correlation of 0.51, where 1 means the same order.
  7. Limits: comments are left under these shows, so the people asking already watch them. A summary chapter is a model's summary of the recording, not the recording. Small shares move with a few comments: a16z has 102 problem questions in total.

The 22 problems come from What founders ask for.
